What is ERW?

ERW is the short form for Electric Resistance Welding, which describes a specific pipe manufacturing process. In this method, two uncoiled rolls of sheet steel are rolled without using any metal. Instead, a continuously applied force or electric current is used for welding the sheets. The sheet pile manufacturers always go for this process because, unlike other pipe fabrication, this process doesn’t start with a billet that is rotated before being clarified by a piercer point.

Cold- Forming

Cold-forming is the process of creating a metal sample at room temperature. This means all the impurities from the metal are removed because the process Is done below steel’s recrystallization temperature. This leads to the metal changing into finer and less course from the grain-like structure, which leads to making very less waste in the machining process. The sheet pile manufacturers consider this as one of the most important steps in the whole process. The sheet is formed into a cylindrical shape. The cold-forming process gives a stronger steel specimen.

Passage Of Current

After the cold forming process, an electrical current flow between the sides of cylindrical steel. To keep the shape, they are brought closer to each other with the help of the current with an induction coil. This gives a non-contact heating technique which is placed around the steel samples that are being inducted. An impeder helps to maintain the quantity of electrical current flow throughout the material.

Forming

The next step is forming, which basically helps the steel to keep its U-shape formation throughout the whole process so that any faults or imperfections can be avoided in the production of the pipes.

Wielding

Seamless pipes need to be welded to get a continuous smooth process without any edges or joints. On the other hand, seamed pipes require welding fillers which doesn’t happen in the ERW welding process.
